Horatio’s Garden South West - the premiere site (est. 2012)
Based around the vision of the late 17-year-old Horatio Chapple, the dream grew from a single garden to support Spinal Injury patients in Salisbury to supporting them throughout the UK. The first garden was realised in 2012, just one year after Horatio’s passing and the organisation has since grown to 8 gardens. The 8th at Sheffield opened in mid-2025 and the 9th designer has been chosen (see Horatio’s Garden Website). In September 2024 I had the pleasure of visiting six of the existing gardens (unfortunately I couldn’t make it to Ireland).
“Located in the Duke of Cornwall Spinal Treatment Centre at Salisbury District Hospital, it supports people from across the whole of the south of England from the Isles of Scilly to Hastings. It was designed by seven-time RHS Chelsea Gold Medal winner, Cleve West.” Horatio’s Garden ‘Impact Report 2023/24’
