“…at the National Spinal Injuries Centre (NSIC) in Stoke Mandeville Hospital. The spinal centre is one of the largest and oldest in the UK, supporting adults and children across the British Isles. View and access directly out from patient wards into garden.
Even threshold for the greatest ease of access to garden in beds, wheelchairs and with other mobility aids.
Flush and permeable surfaces with plenty of room to move, turn and walk together.
Autumn colour visible for garden visitors and patients from their beds / rooms.
Smaller nooks with moveable furniture to provide choice of how and where to sit - a little more privacy in this instance.
Some nooks and areas allow for more social connection and interaction within the garden too.
The Garden Room - a sheltered space for activities, gathering and grabbing a cuppa.
The Greenhouse - some horticultural activities are undertaken here with patients.
Optional shelter of sunbrellas for when the sun comes out.
